Winery

Anapea Winery is a boutique, family-owned estate founded in 2014, dedicated to the revival of ancient Georgian winemaking.

With backgrounds in sociology and marketing, we approached our vision with academic rigor and strategic focus. Before planting our first vine, we conducted extensive field research, interviewing leading ampelographers, viticulture professors, and master winemakers. We believe exceptional winemaking requires a lifetime of learning. Today, alongside our family, we work hand-in-hand with generational, local winegrowers who manage our estates in the premier terroirs of Kvareli and Sagarejo.

Terroir & History

In 2013, we acquired an abandoned, uncultivated plot of land in Kvareli. Depleted and eroded by intensive Soviet-era agricultural practices, the land required complete ecological restoration.

To breathe life back into the terroir, we built a dedicated bio-humus plant to naturally restore soil fertility. Once the ecosystem was revitalized, we selected and planted six of the most celebrated, ancient Kakhetian grape varieties:

  • Mtsvivani & Khikhvi (Prized for their rare, aromatic profiles)

  • Kisi & Kakhuri Mtsvane (Offering exceptional structure and elegance)

  • Saperavi & Vardisperi Rkatsiteli (Our flagship red and rare pink varietals)

To honor historical accuracy, we consulted with legendary qvevri masters and traditional winemaking families. Ultimately, we constructed a state-of-the-art, authentic marani (wine cellar) designed exclusively around the qvevri—the ancient subterranean clay vessel—as our sole medium for fermentation, maceration, and aging.

The Vision: Anapea Wine Village & Education Center

We are expanding our estate into a 1-hectare immersive wine destination. This historical living museum will feature a traditional feudal estate, nobleman’s quarters, historic saarke (schnapps stills), and functional micro-farms. Crucially, this expansion marks the launch of the Natural Qvevri Wine Training Center in Kakheti—an educational hub and museum dedicated to teaching international wine professionals and enthusiasts the science, history, and art of natural Georgian vinification.
